At the High School, special thanks to:
- Mrs Anderson's class who raised enough to feed 3 kids for a year
- Mrs McCambridge's class who raised enough to feed 2+ (almost 3) kids for a year
- Mrs Bushong's, Mr Luczyk's and Miss Parrish's classes who each fed 1 kid for a year
- Mr Staublin's class who had the largest total negaitive of -$112.78. His class collected 12,373 pennies which weighed in at 80 pounds.
**The money that CPHS raised will feed all of the students who are receiving suppers at Greenridge Elementary
At Mill Creek, special thanks to:
- Mrs Wohlford's class & Brigade Fire Protection who rasied enough to feed nearly 3 kids for a year
- Mrs Cummings's and Mr Kurth's classes who fed 2 kids for a year
- Mrs King's and Mrs Schroder's classes who fed 1 kid for a year
Childhood Hunger Facts
In the United States:
- 1 in 5 (around 4 million) children live in poverty
- An additional 9 million are at risk
In Michigan:
- Nearly 500,000 children live in poverty. That's 12% of all children in the U.S. that live in poverty
- 19% of children under the age of 18 live in poverty. That's a 40% increase over the last seven years
- 1 in 4 children under the age of 5 live in poverty
- 38% of students receive free or reduced lunch
In Kent County:
- 1 in 3 kids in Kent County live in poverty
- 4 out of 5 kids living in Grand Rapids live in poverty
In Comstock Park
- There are about 20 students at Greenridge Elementary (our pre-school and kindergarten building) who are receiving sack suppers.
Kids Food Basket Facts
- KFB provides over 1,600 sack supper evening meals every day to children at 16 elementary schools. That's over 310,000 meals yearly.
- An additional 15 schools are on the waiting list
- At each school KFB serves, 80% or more of students receive free or reduced lunch
- Each supper contains 800 - 1000 calories and 5 food groups
- Sack supper contents: one fresh fruit and vegetable, a meat & cheese sandwich, a health snack and a 100% fruit juice box.
- It takes just $0.86 to feed a child an evening meal - that's $140 for an entire year
- Volunteers serve from ages 5 - 95 and number over 1,500. On average, 80 people volunteer at KFB each day
- KFB receives no government funding; all funds are donated by caring individuals, corporations, foundations, civic groups and churches.
